Pottery:
Mainly East Sussex Ware of the 1st or 2nd century AD; single sherd of Hofheim type flagon 1st century; two sherds of Verulamium type late 1st century; one probable Oxford Ware sherd 3rd or 4th century.
Site Description: W. Beswick partially excavated a small bloomery site in 1970-1. The features were close to the bottom of a wet ditch where timber was preserved, although not enough to be diagnostic. The ditch may be a later feature. Subsequent excavation by Dr O Bedwin revealed a bloomery of late Iron Age and/or early Roman date.

The Grid Reference given in the report (TQ 6408 1947) is incorrect for the location indicated in Figure 1.
