Dating evidence:

The sparse pottery finds are dated to the Claudian-Neronian period, somewhat at variance with the radiocarbon date of 1647 ± 60bp, AD 251- 544 (BM685). In view of the similar discrepancy between pottery and radiocarbon dates at Minepit Wood/Orznash 2, Rotherfield (q.v.) the pottery date, of around the invasion date of AD 43, has been preferred.

Site Description:
|
This small bloomery, on the slope above Cinder Arch Lake, consists of a smelting furnace of the domed type, a possible ore-roasting hearth, and a small slag heap.
